The World Final of the Volvo World Golf Challenge came to its conclusion today after two days of exciting play at the Links at Fancourt, as 8-handicapper Xie Hong from China took the title, finishing on 73 stableford points.
At the close of play all of the finalists gathered around the 18th green to congratulate the winner. In the evening the players and their Volvo hosts took part in the gala dinner, and after receiving the crystal trophy at the official prize-giving, Xie Hong said, “This is one of the highlights of my life. For me the word GOLF means G for green, O for oxygen, L for life and F for friendship. It has been a fantastic week and I would like to thank Volvo and all the other finalists.”
6-handicapper Padamjit Sandhu from India finished second on 69 stableford points after a day when the competition was open until very close to the end. Xie’s fellow countryman, Wang Jian, who was playing off handicap 4, finished third on 68.
All in all, some great golf has been played at the Links at Fancourt and a fantastic week has come to its conclusion as world finalists from 24 countries are now returning home.
