China and India Heading the Leaderboard at the Links
The World Final of the Volvo World Golf Challenge teed off today in sunshine at The Links, situated right by the impressive Outeniqua Mountains. All 63 finalists were eager to challenge the championship course, a true test for any golfer.
At the end of the day it was Hong Xie from China who was at the top of the leaderboard on an excellent 37 Stableford points. Tied in second place at the halfway stage is Padamjit Sandhu from India, two points back on 35, who said, “I am happy with my round. I was striking the ball alright today, had a little bit of a struggle with the putting, but all in all a decent round. I don’t think it was 100%, but maybe 75%. The Links is a fantastic golf course, comparable to what we play back in India, DLF, another Gary Player design. Tomorrow I will be aggressive! I have realized that if I try to play it safe, it won’t work for me. Here, the wind and the slopes won’t let you play safe, you have to go for it.”
The overall reactions from all of the World Finalists have been very positive, both with regard to Fancourt as a destination, and about the programme of events for the World Final. It is the perfect way for Volvo and their customers to interact, with the added bonus of spending time with and getting to know the finalists and hosts from many other countries.
Tomorrow sees the second and final round take place; the grand finale with a host of players in contention when anything can happen.
