International Field Getting Ready for the Greatest Challenge
All of the World Finalists arrived in Volvo privilege cars at The Links at Fancourt today for the official practice day, ready to hit the fairways and attack the greens at the number-one course in South Africa for the first time.
Sunday afternoon had been spent at the Botlierskop game reserve park, where rhinos, lions, giraffes and other amazing wild creatures were greatly admired. Dinner was served in the bush, with fire shows and drummers creating a fantastic atmosphere, and this true taste of Africa was hopefully the perfect warm-up for the tournament.
Joining the organisers this week is multiple European Tour winner Peter Hedblom from Sweden. He has been coaching the Finalists on the range and on the putting green, and he comments, “I usually feel that during the practice day, it’s important to find a good feeling, even though you might have some butterflies in your stomach, because you are actually just waiting for the tournament to start. But that expectation, that tension, can be turned into really good energy and focus as the tournament tees off.”
One of the world finalists this week is Alessio Filippi, a Volvo Cars customer from Italy who received some good advice from Hedblom. Alessio said, “Peter helped me on the driving range before so now I have made some changes to my swing and feel even better prepared. I am really looking forward to teeing off tomorrow on this amazing course.”
Tonight, Tournament Director Fanny Sunesson will run through the briefing with all the contestants, making for the best possible preparation for tomorrow’s first round of the 2015 World Final.
