Zhong Pengchi Crowned World Champion
After two days of exciting play over the Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club, the World Final of the Volvo World Golf Challenge came to its conclusion today as Zhong Pengchi from China took the title, finishing at 2-under par.
All of the finalists gathered in the Volvo Lounge to congratulate the winner at the close of play. At the subsequent Press Conference Zhong, who plays off a handicap of eight at Wuhan Golf Club, said, “When I was on the 16th hole I realised that I had the chance to win, but then I hit a bad shot and wasn’t so sure. I really want to thank my playing partners for encouraging me.”
Zhong’s fellow countryman, Zhang Yong, finished second, three shots behind him after a day when the competition was open until very close to the end. Another 8-handicapper, Osama Ishida from Japan, was in the lead at one point, but finally took third place.
All in all, some great golf has been played at the Tomson Golf Club, and tonight all the players will attend the official prize-giving and celebration in the centre of Shanghai.
Now, many Volvo markets around the globe are starting to host their 2015 events. Tens of thousands are looking forward to participating, and some of them will make it all the way to the next World Final.
