Practice Day with the Pros
Today saw the 71 World Finalists getting ready for battle at the magnificent
Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club. Yesterday, they followed the final day of
thrilling action at the Volvo China Open, and celebrated with the winner, Wu
Ashun – today, it was time for practice…in professional company.
The day started with a surprise, as top Professionals Pablo
Larrazábal from Spain and Swede Peter Hanson turned up to kick the day off
with a driving range clinic. This was followed by a lesson in both short
game play and how to use the metal woods.
After lunch it was time to tackle the course in sunny weather with a light
breeze. At each of the two par 3s on the back nine, the 12th and 17th,
Hanson and Larrazábal were challenged by the world finalists in a fun, ‘Beat
the Pros’ competition. The amateurs had the slight advantage of getting
strokes according to their handicap, and Peter Hanson said, “We had a lot of
fun. Some players were a bit nervous, but still, 14 of them managed to beat
me!” Larrazábal added, “This is a great event, with players from all over
the globe. They are already winners having made it this far.”
Tomorrow it is time for the first round of the World Final, with the first
groups teeing off bright and early at 7.30.
